Glenda Brown, Whanganui District Councillor, standing for re election in the 2025 Local Body Elections.

I have lived in Whanganui for 38 years. Along with my husband Baden, we have raised a family and now with grandchildren here, Whanganui is firmly my home.  Our beautiful region punches above its weight in terms of lifestyle, culture and heritage and we firmly believe our family have had the opportunity of growing up in a region that offers a well balanced lifestyle with opportunities to harness their talents & goals which have helped to set them up for life.

My focus over the last three years has been backing business and supporting the community on various levels which is in line with previous roles I have had the privilege to be involved in. This has included: Board of Trustees for 13 years for two local schools (serving 4 years as Chair),  business owner in partnership with Baden for 20 years operating a local construction company. Currently I am one of 3 Directors of a national build & design company. We are proud to operate our business with head office from here in Whanganui.  I also enjoy the role as Chair of the Whanganui Chamber of Commerce (Business Whanganui). As part of these roles, I have sought to be a support in the community I find myself in so being a Registered Mentor with Business Mentors NZ and a member of the NZ Institute of Directors has helped with that.

Committees I have been involved in this last term are:  Strategy & Policy, CE performance review, Regulations, Safer Whanganui, Positive Ageing.  Community Portfolios: Older Persons portfolio; Community Cohesion; Business Growth and Relationships. I am approved by the Minister of Conservation as a board member for the Pakaitore Historics Reserve Board, and I also qualified as an RMA commissioner during the first term on Council enabling me to be able to sit on RMA hearings for our district.

I sincerely look forward to serving the Whanganui community again, for the next three years.
